CONCEPT

The foundation of the Bali townhouse project is reinterpreting traditions. It’s a respectful and modern take on the island’s cultural heritage.
The project aims to blend the rich traditions of Balinese architecture, art, and philosophy with new ideas and technologies, creating a space that bridges the past and the future.
We incorporated the idea of "Shadow Theater" — a play of light and shadow inspired by Balinese shadow puppetry. Sharp contrasts and thoughtful lighting bring the space to life, creating dynamic, changing shadows.
These transitions between light and shadow reflect the philosophy of balance, symbolizing the interplay of opposites: light as clarity and inner strength, and darkness as depth and the hidden aspects of the self.

INTERIOR

Main Zone: Kitchen-Living Room
In the interior, we used natural colors and textures typical of Bali. Warm beige tones serve as the background, highlighting interesting textures and unique design elements.
We needed to hide the air conditioning unit, so we integrated it into a wooden box with traditional carvings.
Inside the box, we installed lights that create beautiful shadow patterns on the walls through the slits when turned on in the evening. We used similar decorative elements throughout every room.
Cabinet
One wall in the office is designed like a shadow theater: a stretched fabric serves as a screen, and behind it are different figures. The display can be easily changed —the figures replaced to create new compositions and visual effects each time.
In the interior, we also combined veneer and rattan, and a large note board with unique rope-style hangers became additional bright accent.
Bedroom
This townhouse has two bedrooms. Even though it’s part of a standard rental housing series, we tried to make each unit unique.
To achieve this, every bedroom in every townhouse features carefully selected pieces of art. For example, there’s a large floor painting created by local Balinese artists. It not only adds authenticity to the interior but also highlights the modern minimalist foundation that we value so much.
The roof of the townhouse is turned into a cozy lounge area — a separate space for relaxation. There’s a large corner sofa, a fireplace, a small kitchen area, plenty of plants, and a projector for watching movies. Through the panoramic windows, you can see the designed rooftop space filled with greenery and night lights that create a warm atmosphere.
