The house is a 2-storey building, designed according to the customer’s sketches. The house is designed in the style of organic architecture and is close in atmosphere and design solutions to the house above the waterfall by Frank Lloyd Wright.
The customer works with antiques, is a keen art critic and antiquarian, so the work on the project proceeded easily with full immersion in the atmosphere of art and history.
The house has an area of 520 sq. m. On the ground floor there are public areas, a guest bedroom, a laundry room, a dressing room, an office and a swimming pool. The entire second floor is occupied by a private area – a spouse’s block with a bedroom, a dressing room and a bathroom, 2 children’s bedrooms with bathrooms and a shared bathroom. On the second floor there are two large outdoor areas with wonderful panoramic views of the surroundings.
Interesting facts: one of the wishes of the customer was to place in the interior antique objects related to the history of the site on which the house stands. So it was necessary to fit into the interior the Dutch tiles presented to the previous owner of the house Ilya Ehrenburg by Pablo Picasso.
The entrance group
Entering the hallway, we see the main historical feature of the house – Dutch fireplace tiles in ocher, hand-painted by an unknown artist and presented to the former owner of the house by Pablo Picasso himself. A partition with a glass cabinet and illuminated shelves has been designed for these tiles. This partition has not only a decorative function, but also a functional one. The partition is equipped with a drawer for keys and other small things in the hallway, as well as a mirror on the side of a large wardrobe, folding shoe racks and a pouf for comfortable putting on and changing shoes.
Another striking piece of art in the hallway was the creative work of photographer Romina Ressia.
Large-format Xlight Premium Ares Dark Polished porcelain stoneware is used on the floor, which is also used in the rest of the ground floor (in the hallway, kitchen-living room). Also in the hallway we can see the wall decoration with veneered panels, which will be used in many rooms of the house to combine the design of the rooms.
Hallway
The hallway is decorated with the same materials – veneered panels and floor tiles as in the hallway. The double-leaf glass door serves as a visual extension of the hallway.
Since the corridor has a narrow width and a long length, it was decided to organize niches of different widths in the walls, place old Russian tiles and old pharmacy vials on the shelves in them, which the customer has a collection of. To keep the open shelves from gathering dust, the niches are closed with glass doors.
Kitchen-living room
The kitchen-living room is designed in a modern style in the general color scheme of the house and is the main and largest area in the house. This room has an irregular shape that divides the space into several zones: a kitchen, a dining room, a sitting area (in a bay window), a fireplace area, a TV viewing area and a corridor with access to the courtyard.
The kitchen is decorated in dark colors, the facades are made of the same color veneer as the wall panels throughout the house to support the interior design. The visual center of the kitchen is an island, it is also a bar counter and a place for breakfast and socializing. The island’s countertop is made of artificial stone in two colors: black and gray, the division between them occurs on the border of two zones: cooking zones and breakfast zones. Kitchen furniture is custom—made and will be made by carpentry workshops according to sketches and drawings. Bar stools Freja bar chair by Crea.
In the dining area, the main element is a dining group consisting of a table with an unusual solid wood base, the COLLAGE CHAIR MENHIR, and chairs by Gallotti&Radice. Slatted sliding shutters are used on the windows of the kitchen and dining room, and black slate is used on the window slopes, which is supported in the decoration of the fireplace, ceiling and the slopes of the other windows in the room.
The ceiling in the bay window area is located below the ceiling level of the main area. We lined it with the same black slate as the fireplace. The fireplace is lined with two types of stone – marble and slate.
Another accent in the room is the wall behind the TV, which is lined with stone veneer slabs of various formats. Sofa group produced by Reflex Angelo. The model was not chosen by chance, the shape of the sofa perfectly fit into the living room and emphasized the unusual layout of the room.
Directly from the kitchen-living room there is an exit to the room with a swimming pool and sauna. In order not to highlight the entrance to this room, it was decided to hide it and use veneered panels on the walls, on the door and on decorative partitions that serve as a division and fence of the sofa area from the steps to the pool. In addition, fences were necessary from a safety point of view to avoid accidents.
The design of the kitchen-living room ceiling was initially at different levels, so to formalize this height difference, we allocated a step near the sofa area with slats painted to match the ceiling.
The Xlight Premium Ares Dark Polished large-format porcelain stoneware floor starts from the hallway, goes through the corridor and ends at the entrance to the pool. Due to the irregular shape of the room, it was decided to use the tile layout according to the shape of the room itself.
Home Office
This room is designed in a neutral color palette that unifies all the spaces in the house. The study is perhaps the brightest room in the home, serving both as a workspace for computer tasks and as a mini-laboratory for plant cultivation. To support this, grow lights are integrated into the window recesses. The window reveals are finished with veneered MDF panels, matching the color of the desk countertop. The window sills are made of natural basalt stone. The room also features painted slatted wall panels for added texture.
For storage, a system is designed under the countertop, along with shelving and a large cabinet with glass doors in custom woodwork. To ensure comfort for both the occupants and the plants, multiple lighting scenarios have been considered. The project includes Grok INVISIBLE series fixtures and Nowodvorski EYE SUPER ceiling lights. The focal point of the room is the Liam Leather Chair by Restoration Hardware.
Swimming pool
The pool area is divided into two blocks: the pool bowl and the wet area, which consists of a sauna, shower and bathroom. Above the wet area, the ceiling was lowered to hide communications and to reduce the height of ceilings in small rooms. The walls are decorated with metal brass sheets, which will be coated with a protective varnish against darkening. A granite slab with a “rock” texture is also used in the wall decoration. The window slopes are made in black slate, which is repeated in the decoration of the whole house. The ceiling is decorated with decorative grey plaster. The main accent of this room is the composition of illuminated metal panels suspended at different levels on the ceiling. They repeat the texture of the metal on the walls of the room. There are also sculptures made of white limestone in the interior.
The sauna room and bathrooms are limited by glass partitions made of tinted black glass.
Bathroom at the pool
The bathroom at the pool has a fairly small area, but it has the great advantage of a window located along the entire length of the wall, and therefore has a higher ceiling height than in the pool area. The wall decoration repeats the floor decoration, and is a continuation of the floor decoration of the pool area. The porcelain stoneware used is gray marble REX CERAMICHE ETOILE DE REX Gris. The wall with the toilet bowl installation is highlighted in graphite color, and a moisture-resistant MDF finish is used here. The sink is a countertop made of artificial stone installed in a spacer along the width of the bathroom.

Hallway
We climb the dark basalt staircase to the second floor. There is an immediate exit to an outdoor terrace with a view of the panorama of the forest, nearby churches and farmsteads. Since the corridor is quite narrow above the stairs, it was decided to make suspended lighting from numerous glass lamps that create interesting patterns and chiaroscuro on the walls. The white painted walls are partially decorated with vertical slats and floor lighting. The Cinier designer radiator stands out from the decor in the room.
The eldest son’s bedroom
A modern nursery with contrasting dark and wooden details. The large bed is recessed into a wooden canopy, made of wooden cubes with different textures and colors, which together imitate shapes, as in Tetris, and also resemble pixel graphics – the master of the bedroom is fond of programming and modeling. The creation of such a structure was dictated by the customer’s desire to isolate the bed from the entrances to the bathrooms, to make them more isolated. There are entrances to the bathrooms on the sides of the canopy. Opposite, there is a wall with a door to the balcony and a work area highlighted by wooden panels. An additional atmosphere fills the room with an accent Malabar armchair and an art Deco carpet.

There is a small sitting area with a B&B Italia armchair and a floor lamp near the fireplace.

A compact and stylish space with high cabinets to the ceiling and glass doors. Since the room is irregular in shape, the cabinets on the sides are made with shelves that adjust the shape of the room, visually creating a sense of rectangular space. Guest bathroom
The guest bathroom has a small area and an irregular configuration – a radius wall. Atlas Concorde Canon Inverso small-format tiles were used on the radius wall, and the adjacent straight walls are lined with large-format tiles from the same collection. Here, gray shades are used in the decoration of the walls, floor and in the color of the toilet bowl, as well as plumbing and accessories in black. A floor-to-ceiling mirror was used to visually enlarge the space in the sink area. The wooden slab countertop is already available from the customer and will be tinted with a dark shade. The stone sink is also already available to the customer and fits perfectly into the bathroom interior. CIRQUE lamps from the Giopato & Coombes factory are used as decorative lighting for the mirror, which are installed at random between the countertop and the ceiling.
Difficulties
Difficulties arose in designing planning solutions due to the general shape of the house. Since the house has a semicircular shape in plan, there are no 90-degree angles in almost all rooms, which imposes certain difficulties in the placement of furniture..
